Meet the Coaches

All MFSC coaches are members of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA), U.S. Figure Skating registered coaches (includes back ground screening), have met their yearly continuing education requirements, and teach beginners through the level listed.

Emily Helgren

($7.50 per/15 minute lesson)

Has competitively skated for the past 10 years. PSA/USFS compliant coach, certified CPR and has been coaching learn to skate with the club for the past 5 years. Volunteered with learn to skate for 5 years prior to taking a coaching position. She skated with the Marquette Senior High School team and helped the team win three state titles (2016, 2017, and 2018). She is finishing up an elementary education degree at NMU and has been the president of the NMU figure skating team for three years. Passed through Novice MITF, Pre-Juvenile freestyle, a pre-silver dance, and intermediate free dance.

Jenna Neaves

Jenna was a competitive figure skater for over 20 years representing the Marquette Figure Skating Club. She is a triple Gold Medalist – having passed her Senior Freeskate, Moves in the Field, and Gold Dances. She coached with the MFSC for a few years while attending NMU where she acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science, and a Masters Degree in Exercise Science. Jenna is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Certified Personal Trainer, and a Holistic Health & Nutrition Coach.  Jenna has years of experience with choreography, as well as off ice dance.

Kay Larson Pool

Has been coaching for 21 years.  She is a PSA/USFS compliant member coach/choreographer. PSA Registered Dance and Moves Rating, and  Level 1 hockey accreditation.  She has coached students through the following tests; Gold and International dances, Senior Solo Freedance, Intermediate Freedance, Intermediate Moves and Pre-Juvenile Freeskate.

Shirra Sinnaeve

Is a current PSA/USFS compliant coach/choreographer, certified CPR/AED and has coached with the Marquette Figure Skating Club since 1985. Her duties with the MFSC have included Learn to Skate Director, Summer School on Ice Coordinator, Ice Show Co-Director, On and Off Ice Choreographer. She has participated in MFSC clinics and presentations along side with World and Olympic coaches.Shirra has been invited as a guest coach to teach at Chilled Ponds -Chesapeake VA, Escanaba Area FSC, Escanaba MI, Timberline FSC- Wausau WI, and Michigan Tech University, Houghton MI.Coach of Regional/Sectional competitors, High School State Individual  Champions, and National Showcase Champion. Shirra has coached numerous students through the USFS Gold level in the disciplines of Moves in the  Field, Ice Dance and Freestyle.  In addition to coaching Shirra is an authorized dealer of name brand skating equipment with Nan-Cees Skatique and can service skates with precision skate blade sharpening.
