Marquette Figure Skating Club sponsors and produce’s it’s annual ice show, “Melody On Ice”, traditionally each year at the end of the winter skating season. The show is sanctioned by U. S. Figure Skating and is held at the Berry Events Center, Northern Michigan University. MFSC skaters entertain the audience with beautiful costumes in group-numbers, solos and feature numbers. Basic Skills skaters from MFSC and Lakeview Skating Academy participants from Marquette and Negaunee join in to demonstrate their new skills. A special set is designed to provide a backdrop for skaters to enter and exit the ice along with special lighting and spot lights. A different musical theme is chosen each year, which provides a fun and unique musical program for the audience. Tickets are available from NMU ticket outlets.
The skater’s responsibility and requirements for ice show participation are defined in the MFSC member handbook. The criteria for the selection of skaters for all featured skating parts are also explained in the MFSC member handbook. Contact the MFSC membership chair if you are in need of a current handbook. Measuring for ice show costumes takes place in October. Basic Skills and Lakeview Skating Academy members participating are required to be registered for skating lessons for both Fall and Winter semesters, and will have the responsibility of a participation/ice fee and a costume fee. To minimize the disruption of the regularly scheduled skating schedule and lessons, all practices and rehearsals take place about two weeks preceding the show.
