Learn to Skate - Basic Skills Program
Skating is one of the world's greatest sports! Skating in Basic Skills is fun, challenging and rewarding, regardless of age. Skating is a sport that can last a lifetime! Whether your goal is to aim for the Olympics, learn to skate backward, improve your overall health and fitness, impress your friends, or just to have fun on the ice, you can find it with the Basic Skills Program.
The Marquette Figure Skating Club (MFSC) has designed their program to provide a simple but progressive method of small group instruction (3-5 Skaters) for the basic skills of ice skating. MFSC participates in U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) Learn to Skate program, the governing body of figure skating in the United States.
MFSC offers four 5 week terms on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00 to 6:50 pm. A skater may have a choice of 1 or 2 nights of lessons. Each 50 minute class period consists of 25minutes of lesson time and 25 minutes of practice time. The objective is to teach correct technique in the basic skating elements, allowing the skater to progress to Figure Skating or Hockey. Ages 4 to Adult are eligible. All classes are held at Marquette's Lakeview Arena and are taught by Professional Skaters Association, "Excellence on Ice" skating instructors.
Membership Fees: Skaters have a choice of becoming a Basic Skills member of the Marquette Figure Skating Club for $30.00 (2nd family member $12.00) or a Junior Club member for $60.00. The junior club membership entitles skaters who may want to take private lessons to purchase regular club ice. Junior Club membership is a one year introductory price (regularly $100.00).
"New" Free Skate Fundamentals Class: This class is offered as a 2nd night of skating to introduce the fundamentals of free skating, such as; jumps, spins, and flexibility moves. Prerequisite - Skater enrolls as a second night of skating and is Basic 3 or above level.
Fundraiser Fee: The major fundraiser for the MFSC is selling Consumer Cash Cards. The card offers continuous discounts to local businesses. Basic Skills members are required to purchase 3 cards for $6.00 each (Total $18.00) This is 3 per/family.
Rental Skates: are available through Lakeview Arena for $10.00 per/5 week term, per/night. Availability is limited, first come, first serve basis. Fees are paid to MFSC, please refer to the registration form.
